Google Algorithm Major Updates in 2015

Every Year, Google updates its organic search algorithm around more than 500 times. Out of which many of the updates are minor and some of the updates are major that affects more than 25% of the search result significantly. All these updates Google keep on rolling to serve the user with the best results and to keep the practices of web masters fair and legible.

These algorithm updates affects the search and the marketer significantly. Many of the search marketers face difficulty when these updated take place and some of the marketers enjoys it too. This is because the way they follow the guidelines which Google has provided.

Now let’s see the major updates which took place in Search 2015.

2015 Major Google Algorithm Updates:

Unnamed Update – Feb 4, 2015:
At the starting of the Year Feb 2015 in Search, most of the webmasters had experienced major flux in SERP’s (Search Engine Result Pages) This Speculation ranged from an e-commerce focused update to a mobile usability. But Google did not officially confirm an update.

Mobile Update AKA “Mobilegeddon” – Apr 21, 2015:
Long back Google has announced an algorithm update regarding Mobile Friendliness of Your website. Google's 'mobilegeddon' has shaken up search results for those who don't have a mobile friendly website. This update will only Impacted on mobile searchers.

The Quality Update – May 3, 2015:
There was a time in the month of May when Google has launched an update called "Phantom 2". The Quality update, Google acknowledges a core algorithm change which affects a large part of the search. As it itself says it’s a Quality update it has impacted the quality of SERP’s ( Search Engine Result Pages )

Panda 4.2 Update – July 17, 2015:
Google Panda 4.2 has been rolled out in the month of July almost after 10 months of waiting time. Study's says that it will not affect your ranking a lot in a short period of time but yes if you have done something wrong, then this is the time to correct it.

RankBrain Update – Oct 26, 2015:
RankBrain is one of the major announcements from Google’s end.  But yet to be confirmed. This update can be rolled out in Next Year in Search that is 2016.

So let’s wait and watch what Google have in its Algorithm Update to roll out in 2016

Google Removed all Right Hand Side Ads on SERPs Worldwide

March 1, 2016

 Yes my friends, late February Google has rolled out an update for PPC / Google Sponsored Ads / Google Ad-words all are the same. The “complete and permanent” roll-out is Finalized on 22 February 2016.

The update has been confirmed from various resources, and myself have also searched the same things and came to this conclusion. Google has removed all Right-Hand Side Ads on SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages)

Now the Sponsored ads will appear only at the Top Three Positions and if the Keywords has good searches or demand in the market, then the Number of Results will be Four rather than Three. In addition, the displaying ads at the bottom will be same; there is no change into it.

Impact on users and the Marketers:

For Users:
Nothing changes many times they won’t bother about it. However, this time the right sides blank space will be utilized for PLA’s (Product Listing Ads) or the Knowledge Graphs which is again introduced by Google.

For Marketers:
Those who are doing paid ads the changes to get in the eye of target audience is decreased as compare to previous listings. However, for the e-commerce platform, it’s a better chance to showcase their products more precisely.

The Marketers who are doing SEO – Search Engine Optimization, because of the increase in number of Paid ads at the top of the SERPs result in less space (as in user have to scroll more to see the organic result) because of Paid Ads, Then Google Map Listing, Then Organic Result Starts. So marketers need to put more focus on Organic SEO. Now the main challenge will be on the SEO Companies to rank the website within in Top 5 to get the optimal result.

Conclusions:

Google has removed right-hand side Paid Ads Listings the reason behind May be due to Low CTR. The ads might was generated low click through Rates. However, now as right side ads have been completely removed so it will result in more competition for getting ads displayed on top of SERPs. The Bid might get too higher for the industries like Financial Sectors, Real Estate and many more. This mite can also increase in demand for SEO as Paid Advertising will go costlier as compare to organic one.

For Organic SEO, it might get tougher to rank the website at least on top 5 to drive the traffic on a particular website. Even so, for most of the time, for services people do consider Organic Result rather than Paid One. Users are very well aware and know the difference between Paid Listings and Organic Listing.

Where? We should Put Google Analytic Code in Website?

Hi Guys, as indulge in these industries more than four years I got a question and comment from client side also from some of my friends, who are designers and developers, where to put Google Analytic Code exactly.

First let me explain in brief that what is Google Analytic? Google Analytic is a tool provided by Google for Free of Cost; it helps the website owner or the SEO Optimizers or Professional to track the overall performance of their website in terms of traffic.

Below are some of the Key Features of GA – Google Analytic:

  • Track the number of visitors to your website.
  • Track the location of the visitors.
  • Track the Keywords which the visitors have used.                                                       
  • Track the Time Duration they spent on Your Site.
  • Set up a Goal.
  • Track the Bounce Rate.
  • Segments Available.
  • You can filter your traffic.
  • Lot more features are there.
     

So now coming to the point, where exactly the Google Analytic Code should be placed? Some people convey to put the Code on the Top under the Opening Head some people tell put it on the Footer at the Closing body.

Google says clearly to put it anywhere between opening body and closing body. So the Big question does we follow what Google says, or on the top or on the bottom. Confusion?

Don’t worry, what Google says is always good but the best thing is you should put it on the Footer. 

Once put it on the Header: 
Visitors come on your website once he clicks on your link. The page starts loading, which means before loading the full page that visits will count as a one visit, though he has closed the tab without seeing the whole website, or he might have closed the window as the website took time to get loaded.

Once put it in between:
In this case, the same consequences can happen but for most of the time we mentioned our main points or product or information just in between the page so that it can attract the visitors. And they can easily go through the whole article. However, but if it’s a content-based website or information or services based website this time can make a consequence. Nevertheless, most of the time it works.

Once put it on the Footer:
Now if you put the code at the bottom i.e. just above the closing body, this will not only count the whole visit but also will help you to track the exactly number of visitors who have actually visited your site completely.

Conclusions:
So it is always recommended that every SEO Company or an SEO Expert should put the Google analytic code at the bottom. And track the exact and actual number of visitors to your website. And but when it comes to visitors, it is again bifurcated into New Visit and Returning Visits. This point we will try to explain in some of our other blogs, until then stay tuned.

The Navigation Structure: It is important that the website navigation structure should be very appropriate and up to the mark. One can find each everything very smoothly. As in the main service or products should be placed at the centre so that it can be finding easily to the users.

The Color Combination: You might have sawn most of the sites using Dark color (especially black), but that should avoid. Rather than that there is a lot of beautiful colors are there which you can use. If your logo is of Black Color, Don’t worry, you can use white background with grey strips and something close to you. Now we have solved your query.

The URL Structure: The URL structure plays a vital role when it comes to promotion, online marketing and other source of promotion. The URL should be clean and neat. As most of the designer don’t knows the importance of URL’s. Below are some of the best practices for URL structure.

  1. The URL should be SEO friendly. For e.g. example.com/about-us not example.com/id=page123
  2. Do not put spaces in between the url’s.
  3. To avoid the spaces use hyphen (-) rather than underscore (_).
  4. For SEO, if possible avoid one page websites.

Use of Jquery Instead of Java Scripts: Another factor which can harm your website in getting good traffic is the use of Java Scripts. Most of the search engines do not crawl java scripts, also it results in an increase in page loading time. Instead of that you can use Jquery. One of the most important points to make a note of is always avoid having Intro page on your website. 

Error Free Websites: This is something which no one bothers. Neither the designer nor the web promotion companies. This is what, which occurs at the time of designing so it’s important to get it solved at the time when the website is in designing process. There are certain SEO Companies that make this point as an SEO work, and they try to solve the error until it’s possible for them, may god bless them.

Broken Links Get Solved: This is one of the very common problems any website can have. Broken Link or Dead Links. While navigating on your website, sometime you see some of the pages are not working so thus are called broken link or dead links. Responsiveness: Last but not the least, responsiveness of the website. According to latest Google’s algorithm updates. One should have a responsive website which means it should be compatible with Desktop, Laptop, and all Mobile Devices. According to the latest update those who have not responsive website, they will suffer a decrease in ranking only on mobile. This update will impact only mobile searchers.

Short Tail Keyword v/s Long Tail Keywords

First we need to understand what is keyword? Then we will concentrate on the next two questions. So what is keyword? If I ask anybody that what is keywords the answers will be different and vary from person to person. If anybody will ask me about it, my answer will be "Anything which you search online, though it’s Name, Place, Animal, Thing, Services, Information is called keywords" Now I think most of the people will agree with me with this answer.

Now let’s talk about the types of keywords:

Short Tail Keywords: As per the above definition by me on keywords. Anything which is search only including two words like SEO Mumbai, PPC Services, Marketing Firm or SEO, PPC, SMO and so on. This kind of keywords will be considered as short tail keywords.

Search Behaviour: Now for a short tail keywords search behaviours also varies a lot it also depends on the keyword what people are putting. For e.g. I will put any of the above two keyword in the search box the search will display the relevant result suppose for SEO Mumbai, it will display the result of SEO Company in Mumbai. But when I change the same keyword with for e.g. SEO, PPC so the next result in the search will be of Wikipedia on the first though the person is looking for SEO service or PPC service but he will get the result of what is SEO, types of SEO, same for the PPC etc. Search engine consider these two words as a separate word it will show the relevancy of both the word for which we have made the search. It will go in their database and show the result which is most related of your searched query.

Most of the people feel and would like to go for short tail keywords as it has more competition, more searches, result in more number of traffic, True, but it will also result in high bounce rate, irrelevant target audience, which may be waste of time. For e.g. as an individual you are looking for 1bhk flats and the results are in front of you. So you have too many websites and the list of property to choose from. But it will show you the result of a 1bhk flats which is located 800 - 1000 km away from your office location or the place where you currently live, then it will result in waste of time and also waste of energy searching in that site, for site it will result in bounce rate and irrelevant audience. So for this what will be the right keyword we will learn in the second types?

Long Tail Keywords: Long tail keyword or Descriptive keywords are also known as goal conversion keywords. Now I think you might have got an idea which one is better. Anything which is search using three or more words like SEO Company Mumbai, PPC Services in Mumbai, Internet Marketing Firm in Mumbai and so on. These kinds of keywords will be considered as long tail keywords.

Search Behaviour: In long tail keyword user clearly specify its total requirement and thus it’s also called as descriptive keywords. For e.g. If a person has types SEO company in Mumbai or SEO services in Mumbai or 1bhk flats in Mumbai, it clearly specify his requirement that he is looking for the result only related to his query along with the location which is Mumbai in this scenario.

Conclusion: Understanding the search behaviour along with what end user will search for your products or services which you are offering is very important. Today, we are going to talk about Google's latest update. Those who are already aware regarding this update just brush up your mind and for those who aren't aware for those it’s a new thing in the search.

Recently there was new update from Google’s end for that website that has encrypted data in their website. Yes I am talking about the same HTTPS, SSL, etc. Gone are the days when search engines are not very keen to crawl a site with https. But now for improving the search quality Google has implemented this update which will enable the search engine bots to crawl and fetch the data of a website that has https or ssl things in their website.

Previously most of the websites like shopping cart based website where user use to give their data like name, address, credit card details, etc. They must required to have the SSL certificate or domain with https, as they have a confidential data with them, but search engine use to ignore such website for most the time and thus they lack visibility in the search engine. Also websites like application based where you go and create or customize your design and then make an order or purchase a products. The same issue this website also faced due to secure socket layer.

But now hats off too Google that they have consider these website too to include in the search and to improve the search results. Because of this update most the sites which do not have the HTTPS or SSL they will face some drop in ranking as these types of website are going to acquire their place and rule over the search result.

Though Google is still king of the search engine. But improvising the search on a regular interval is also important.
